Wellington accommodation
Reviews from Oupa Attie's guest book

On 2012/11/06, GreenDoor Collection reviewed Oupa Atties

"To be honest, I was in a hurry for accommodation and did a Google search for “Accommodation Wellington South Africa”. And I was on a tight budget. So many of the first options were a bit too expensive for me. After some digging I found Oupa Attie’s Guesthouse – an old railway residence dating back to the early 1900's. Driving up to the gate it was quite unassuming. But for 450 ZAR per night for both my wife and I, it was an absolute treat. Firstly, the sheer size of the place is quite surprising. For that price I was expecting a neat and modest place to stay. However, guesthouse accommodation being what it is, we got a room, an en-suite bathroom with a Victorian-style bath, and because the other room was not occupied, we had the entire lounge and kitchen area to ourselves, which is set up to handle a family of about 6.

Secondly, the home is renovated well. The Oregon Pine door and window fittings are all beautifully restored and the kitchen still has an old coal fired oven in operational order. Both the kitchen and lounge are very big, equipped with DSTV and appliances for cooking. Oupa Attie’s is the perfect place for a family retreat – with it’s two rooms, sleeping at least two each and a garden for the children to play (I’m sure you could arrange places for children to sleep). If you’re not a dog person, you might find Yster a bit of a pain. But being the dog fanatic that I am, I found his friendly charm to be just what I needed after a long drive.

In terms of comfort, the bedroom was equipped with a very comfortable bed, towels, an extra room where one could set up a camper cot, and an en-suite with a shower and cast iron Victorian-style bath. It was a comfortable and pleasant place to be, and I was disappointed that we were only staying for one night. If you enjoy restored historical homes and are on a budget, Oupa Attie’s is for you. Only a few kilometres outside Wellington and located next to working farms, it’s sure to be a memorable experience. Also, the “family friendly” setup will be appealing to some."

"Morning Barry

We would like to extend our appreciation for the good time we had at your Guest House this past weekend. We really enjoyed ourselves and will definitely refer our friends to you for an undisturbed time away. The rooms were very cosy in a simplest way ever, the African décor was a highlight and every room in your house is so welcoming. The girls enjoyed playing pool and the talks and jokes we shared at your kitchen table really made all 6 of us bond and appreciate each other more.

We will definitely bring our kids when we come again.

Enkosi kakhulu Barry and we will send you more pictures

"Superb accommodation and great hospitality from our hosts. I especially enjoyed the luxurious linen, the jets in the spa pool, the gorgeous old-fashioned bathtub and having the chance to whip my colleague’s butt at the pool table. Would definitely like to stay at Oupa Attie’s again."
